More on how it works

What's included

Everything a new lawn needs underneath it

New-build gardens are often handed over as compacted subsoil with debris near the surface. Turf laid straight on top struggles, so the preparation is part of every job.

Included where your garden needs it

  • Builders' debris cleared from the surface
  • Compacted ground broken up
  • Levelling and grading for an even finish
  • Topsoil added where the existing layer is thin
  • Turf supplied and laid with tight joints
  • Rolled for good soil contact
  • Edges cut neatly to paths, drives and patios
  • Waste from the prep taken away
  • Watering and first-mow guidance

Not something we do

  • Paving, patios or paths
  • Fencing, walls or decking
  • Planting schemes and borders
  • Artificial grass

Larger amounts of builders' rubble are priced separately, and your quote shows it if it's needed.

Why turf

Why turf suits a new-build garden

  • A lawn in a day

Rolls go down on prepared ground and the garden looks finished straight away, rather than waiting a season for seed.

  • Holds the soil

Turf knits into the topsoil and helps stop new ground washing out or turning to mud in wet weather.

  • Finishes the house

A neat front lawn and an even back garden make a new home feel settled, and give children and pets somewhere to be.

Homeowners and landlords

Your new garden, done properly

Most requests come from people who have just moved in, or are about to, and want the garden finished. Tell us about the plot, front and back, and get a quote worked out for it.

Landlords with a newly built rental can use the same form; choose Landlord.

Common questions

Is the quote free?

Yes. Tell us about the garden in the form and your quote is worked out for it, so you can see what's included. Sending the form asks for a quote only.

I haven't moved in yet. Can I still ask?

Yes. If you only have a plot number, put it in the form with the development's postcode. Many people plan their lawn before completion.

My builder left lots of rubble. Is that included?

Surface debris cleared during preparation is included and taken away. Larger amounts of builders' rubble are priced separately, and your quote shows it if it's needed.

Do you lay patios or paths?

No. New Build Turfing is turfing only: ground preparation and turf. Turf is cut neatly to any paths, patios or drives already there.

When is the best time to turf a new-build garden?

Spring and early autumn are usually easiest, when the soil is warm and moist. Turf can be laid in most months when the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged. Our area guides give local timing.

How long does it take?

Most gardens are finished within a day. Expect longer for a big plot or heavy prep.
